Within each Specific Method of Data Collection is a link to
Better Evaluation’s description of the type of data collection and a
description as well as example of its use.
In terms of analyzing the data collected, I incorporate both
qualitative and quantitative data. The above chart illustrates which data
collection methods fit into each category and specifically state the manner in
which they are analyzed.
Because a lot of the data is qualitative (observations), I
use Content Analysis to search for similarities
in the focus groups and to organize the feedback from experts, looking for
common themes, phrases and patters in order to judge the effectiveness of the
focus groups and expert sessions. I also
make use of framework matrices so
that it is easy for experts to compare and analyze the policy document. It also
will allow those analyzing the policy to clearly summarize the information at
hand. I will also analyze the policy document by making use of thematic coding so to be able to
identify and analyze specific passages that would affect the LGTBQ community.
With regards to the quantitative data I feel that summary statistics will provide a very
clear before and after picture that will detail if improvement has changed with
regards to the feelings towards school atmosphere and perception of the LGTBQ
community. Also, a timeline series analysis is a good manner in which to analyze the
data taken from the YouTube page, as it will provide a good picture of where
interest and understanding changed and be able to see if it correlates with the
focus groups and expert discussions.
